Rahul Bose’s Tweet On Paying 442 For 2 Bananas Prompts Probe Against The 5-Star Hotel
A few days back, Rahul Bose had tweeted about paying an obnoxious amount for just 2 bananas at a 5-star hotel in Chandigarh. Now, the excise and taxation department will be investigating the matter
Call it an odd scenario, if you may! Actor Rahul Bose hadn’t expected in his wildest thoughts that he would end up paying Rs 442 for just 2 bananas. Well yes. This happened in Chandigarh at JW Marriott where the actor decided to have 2 bananas post his workout session, but he was dumbfound when he had to pay Rs 442 for consuming those 2 bananas. The actor expressed his disappointment by sharing the incident on social media through a video.
He tweeted, "You have to see this to believe it. Who said fruit wasn’t harmful to your existence? Ask the wonderful folks at @JWMarriottChd #goingbananas #howtogetfitandgobroke #potassiumforkings”
While netizens obviously had their own interpretations on it, now the video has reached the Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner, who has ordered a probe into the charging of goods and services tax (GST) by the hotel. A senior officer from the department who refused to be named revealed to Hindustan Times, “We have constituted a three member team, which will visit the hotel and inspect relevant documents. If need be we can also call for records from the hotel. The probe mandate is whether the hotel was charging GST as per law or not. Also we will be checking whether the amount charged as GST is being paid to the government as per law.”
Meanwhile, a spokesperson of JW Marriott also quoted to the leading daily, “We are examining the issue and we will be shortly releasing an official statement.”
