Ram Gopal Varma Doesn’t Want To See Kangana Ranaut Portraying J Jayalalithaa In Thalaivi: ‘They Should Have Taken A 50-Year-Old Actress’

Director Ram Gopal Varma, known for films such as Sarkar, Satya, and others, often hits the headlines for his controversial tweets and remarks. In a recent interview, Ram Gopal Varma commented about Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Thalaivi- a biopic on late politician J Jayalalithaa. He said that he doesn’t want to see Kangana Ranaut playing the role of politician J Jayalalithaa in Thalaivi, and if given a choice, he would much rather see her in films like Manikarnika.
While speaking with Navbharat Times, Ram Gopal Varma said that he isn’t sure about Thalaivi because given the fame that the late politician J Jayalalithaa has in the South, he doesn’t want to see Kangana portray the role. “If I have a choice, I would like to see Kangana only in films like Manikarnika, but I would not like to see Kangana in the character of Thalaivi at all. A star like Kangana should not look different from her body and personality,” he said.
Ram Gopal Varma also added that the biggest drama that took place in Jayalalithaa's life was between the ages of 50 and 60 years. He said he is of the opinion that the actress chosen for this role should have been someone who is at least 50 years old. According to him, that is the only way to do justice to the role. He said that it is very important that the actress who portrays her, must resemble the late politician.
