Ranbir Kapoor's Jagga Jasoos was an ambitious project. The actor who also produced the film had high hopes. It starred Katrina Kaif opposite him, however, it tanked at the box office. The film was mired in controversies and suffered several delays. Over all, the project reportedly turned out to be a flop for the makers. Now, after years of it is release, director Anurag Basu has opened up about what happened. He even spoke about Govinda getting removed from the film.
In an interview with Mid-Day, Anurag Basu said, "With such delays already with the shoot, (there was confusion) if Govindaji is coming on the set, or is he cancelling the flight, or is he taking the fight, or are we cancelling shoot? It was so unpredictable. I couldn’t have taken that stress, yaar. We were shooting outdoor in South Africa, everything was lined up. I just had to (let go of him)."
A big controversy had followed after Govinda was fired from Jagga Jasoos. Even Rishi Kapoor had stood up in support of Govinda over this as he had quoted, "Anurag even threw Govinda out of the film. If you don’t want Govinda to work in your film, why did you ask him in the first place? Iss sab mein Ranbir ka naam toh kharaab hoga, aur kya? Mera kharaab hoga!”
He even spoke about Ranbir Kapoor being busy with his other projects while working on Jagga Jasoos. Anurag Basu said, "Ranbir was shooting and promoting four films during this time. I could have put my foot down and requested him not to. But then, Pritam also wanted time to make music. I didn’t know where to balance. Even after all this time, we were rushing with post-production, five months before release!"
