Rishi Kapoor Would Have Wanted People Fighting To Carry His Bier, Says Nikkhil Advani; Reveals Funeral Photos Broke His Heart
Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor passed away on April 30, 2020 at a hospital in Mumbai. He had been battling cancer for two years before succumbing to the deadly disease after a brave fight. His demise, just one day after Irrfan Khan’s death, was a huge blow to millions of fans all over the world. Bollywood celebrities took to their social media and mourned the huge loss. Rishi Kapoor’s funeral took place at a crematorium in South Mumbai, with just family members and close friends in attendance. Among those present were Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Abhishek Bachchan, and a few others. Nikkhil Advani, who directed Rishi Kapoor in D-Day, regrets not being able to attend the last rites.

Nikkhil Advani shared that Rishi Kapoor would have wanted people fighting over giving a shoulder to his bier at the funeral. Owing to the Coronavirus lockdown, only about 20 people were allowed to attend Rishi Kapoor's funeral. In an interview with Rajeev Masand, the filmmaker revealed that the photographs from Rishi Kapoor's funeral broke his heart. “It just broke my heart. They come from a generation where people believed that no matter what happens, they would have done enough good in life that people would fight to carry their coffin. It is very difficult to see those photographs because he would have wanted people fighting for it,” he said.

Nikkhil Advani also talked about late actor Vinod Khanna’s demise, and said, “I went to Vinod Khanna’s funeral with Rishi Kapoor. He was very, very upset that not a single youngster from the film industry was there. He even tweeted about it, ‘I wish when I die there will be enough people to carry my arthi’.”

Rishi Kapoor had tweeted in 2017, after Vinod Khanna’s funeral, “Shameful, Not one actor of this generation attended Vinod Khanna’s funeral. And that too he has worked with them. Must learn to respect.” He had added, “Why this? Including mine and thereafter. When I die, I must be prepared. None will shoulder me. Very very angry with today’s so called stars.” ALSO READ: Rishi Kapoor’s Ashes Immersed In Banganga As The Family Was Denied Permission To Go To Haridwar, Says Randhir Kapoor
