Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been roped in to direct the first episode of Heera Mandi. His ambitious project, which stars Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi, was initially supposed to be only produced by him -- as he has his hands full with post-production work of Alia Bhatt-starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi. While the first episode will be directed by Bhansali, the rest of the episodes will be helmed by Vibhu Puri.
A source informs BollywoodHungama.com, “Heera Mandi is Bhansali’s dream project for 12 years now. The only reason he is not helming it officially is because he is busy with the post-production of his directorial project Gangubai Kathiawadi.” While the casting for the project is underway, probably his team felt he must take the charge of his ambitious project. It is a seven episodes series; while SLB directs the first episode, he will supervise the rest of the episodes directed by Vibhu Puri.
“There are seven episodes in Heera Mandi. Bhansali will now direct the first episode. The rest of the six episodes will be directed by Vibhu Puri while Bhansali will supervise the project,” added the source. Hence, it is assured Heera Mandi will benefit from SLB’s touch in each of the frame.
The filmmaker was earlier not supposed to don the director’s hat for any of the episodes and was brought to the director's chair much later. ALSO READ: Sonakshi Sinha Locked In For Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heera Mandi
Besides Sonakshi and Huma, it is speculated that Nimrat Kaur, Sayani Gupta and Manisha Koirala will also be seen in the web series. As per reports in the media, it will be shot on sets of Gangubai Kathiawadi by modifying them a bit.
