Sara Ali Khan-Sushant Singh's Controversial Kedarnath Cleared By Censors With Just 2 Cuts!

Kedarnath stands censored. In a major session yesterday at the Peddar Road Censor Board office, the Censors finally gave it a U/A certificate with just 2 cuts. The makers had spent sleepless nights ever since BJP and Congress objected to it, but now they are heaving a sigh of relief. We bet, Sara Ali Khan is also equally relieved- as Kedarnath is her debut film.

The film has been under a big controversy, with strong objections having been raised by politicians. Responding to the accusation from a BJP leader that the film promotes ‘love jihad’, Ronnie Screwvala (producer) and Abhishek Kapoor had staunchly defended their product. “Firstly till date, nobody has approached us with anything that we can clarify. Secondly, our onus is to get the film censored and certified by the CBFC which is the sole body to decide on the film and thirdly, we all are creative people and we are Indians first. I do not think anyone of us will hurt any sentiment,” Screwvala had said.


Ajendra Ajay, who is part of the state BJP's media relations team, wrote to Central Board of Film Certification Chairman Prasoon Joshi that despite being set against the backdrop of one of the worst human tragedies, the film directed by Abhishek Kapoor makes fun of Hindu sentiments. Taking exception to a kissing scene between lead pair Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan featured in the film's teaser and a tagline in its poster reading "Love is a Pilgrimage", the BJP leader alleged that it was an attack on the Hindu religion as Kedarnath represents the faith of crores of Hindus "By setting a romantic love story against the backdrop of a huge tragedy that occurred at Kedarnath, a centre of faith for crores of Hindus, the filmmakers have shown great disrespect to the followers of the religion" Mr Ajay had told PTI.

On the other hand, the Congress had alleged that the film violates the beliefs of people and has inappropriate scenes which should be removed immediately.  “Inviting Bollywood stars to shoot here is a great way of tourism, but also the government should put all the norms in front of them and tell them about the do’s and don’t’s. No one has the right to violate our beliefs. Char Dham, especially Kedarnath, is the most important and people believe in it,” Garima Dasauni, an AICC member, had told ANI. While objecting a kissing scene between the lead pair in the movie, she had said that a warning should be issued to the makers that they could not play with our beliefs. “We will send a letter to the Prime Minister and the board to find a solution to the problem."
