SEXISM AT ITS WORST: How Can You Be A Lady If You Are Wearing T-Shirt & Jeans?
This was the question posed by a male member of the Censor Board to Kiran Shroff, the business partner of Kushan Nandy, whose film Babumoshai Bandookbaaz received 48 cuts. Pahlaj Nihalani however denies this
Kiran Shroff, the business partner of Kushan Nandy (Pritish Nandy’s son), was
in for a rude shock recently.

Bandookbaaz were at the Censor Board office for the screening of the film.
First came the bad news for Kushan and Kiran that their
film should have 48 cuts and then to add insult to their injury, according to
Ashoke Pandit (senior CBFC member) Kiran was targeted by two members of the
Board.

After the screening, a female member of the Board came up
to Shroff and asked her, ‘Lady hoke aap aise subject par film kaise bana sakte
ho?’
And then came the worst. Her male colleague added: “How
can she be a lady when she is wearing a t-shirt and jeans?”
Kiran, who had donned this attire at the screening, was
left aghast at this extremely sexist treatment meted out to her. The comments
had veered from professional to personal in a second.

The makers of Babumoshai Bandookbaaz have decided to contest the decision of the Censor Board to give their film 48 cuts and they have decided to bring up this issue too at the press conference which will be held tomorrow.
They will be supported by Pandit, who has been vocal in his disapproval of current Censor Chief Pahlaj Nihalani’s ways. He plans to come out, all guns blazing against Nihalani, tomorrow at Club Millenium. We brought you this piece of news, a while ago.
Adding to the Kiran Shroff incident, Pandit said: “Apart from earlier issues related to Babumoshai Bandookbaaz, this incident too needs to go public. We have sent a complaint asking for an inquiry into this matter and want the two Censor Board members in question to be suspended.”

Kiran Shroff was last in the news after she spoke out against Chitrangda Singh, who quit Babumoshai Bandookbaaz after she was asked to film an explicit sex scene.

When contacted, Pahlaj Nihalani accused the filmmakers in question of fabricating the Kiran Shroff incident. He said: “I am surprised by what Kushan and Kiran are saying about my team outside. Kushan has met me and asked for some relief on the cuts. During this meeting, he did not tell me anything about any misbehaviour from any of my team members. Team Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is simply trying to get mileage. The film has gone to the Tribunal, and that’s that.”
