Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh And More: Here’s How Long It Has Been Since These Actors' Last Project
The last one year has been hard for everyone, but arguably a tad bit more for the Bollywood industry. With theatres being shut and shoots stalled for the better part of the last 12 months, the Hindi film industry is facing a lot of uncertainty. Even when shoots resumed, it didn’t take long for things to go back to the still state with the second wave of Covid-19 cases, looming large over everyone. And that means more wait for the audience for their favourite stars.

Although almost every digital consumer revisited their favourite actors best and even bad projects through the pandemic, the thrill of a new project by your favourite stars is always different. Due to the theatrical business being affected badly, many films took the OTT way and stars like Akshay Kumar, Kiara Advani and Alia Bhatt got to show their work to the audience but it’s been a long while for many others. Let’s have a look at some of the actors who have had a while since their last release:

Shah Rukh Khan- 3 years

SRK’s decision to stay away from films was a more conscious one rather than influenced by the pandemic. After the failure of Zero, SRK took a long time to contemplate his next project. The rumours mills have been abuzz with speculations for about three years now, about him collaborating with Rajkumar Hirani, Atlee, Raj and DK and more. It was finally Siddharth Anand that got to helm his next project, Pathan, where he reunites with Deepika Padukone and fights John Abraham. Even though there hasn’t been any official announcement yet, some BTS pics from India and UAE, plus Salman Khan’s mention of his cameo during Bigg Boss, have generated enough curiosity around the film.

Ranbir Kapoor- 3 years

The mammoth success that was Sanju in 2018, everyone was waiting with bated breath about what Ranbir’s next project would be. After successfully bringing Sanjay Dutt’s character to life, the audience wanted to see more of him. It has now been three years. To be fair, his next project Brahmastra was supposed to release sooner, but one or the other delay has been looming over that project for years now. However, now it seems like the audience will get to see a lot more of him in a very short span of time as he has multiple projects in line including Brahmastra with Alia Bhatt, Shamshera with Vaani Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal with Parineeti Chopra. He is also reported to be in talks with Rajkumar Hirani for PK sequel and one other project.

Aamir Khan- 3 years

When it was announced that Aamir and Amitabh Bachchan, two bonafide superstars, were collaborating for a YRF project, it had success written all over it. The first day collection of the film resonated the same. But no one expected the film to bomb the way it did after that. Since then, it has been almost three years and Aamir is still working on his next Laal Singh Chadha, the official remake of Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump. Aamir did give a brief appearance in March this year in a special song in Kunal Kapoor’s Koi Jaane Na, but the curiosity around Laal Singh Chadha is making the wait for his return to the big screen all the more exciting.

Anushka Sharma- 3 years

Just like SRK, Anushka’s last project was also Zero. Since then, the actress has produced multiple successful projects including Paatal Lok and Bulbbul, but her last screen presence was a special appearance in the song Kudi Nu Nachne De for Angrezi Medium. During this while, Anushka also became a mother and seems to be enjoying this new phase of life. Even though she hasn’t decided on her next project yet and is focusing on her baby girl for now, we can’t wait for her to come back and set the screens on fire.

Ranveer Singh- 2 years

Ranveer’s stint as Murad in Gully Boy, stole hearts of everyone and continued his streak of giving blockbuster films one after the other. Everyone was eagerly waiting for his next release Kabir Khan’s ’83, based on the Indian team’s victory at the 1983 cricket world cup, when the pandemic hit and the film’s release date has been in a limbo since. During this wait, Ranveer has shot for Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus and has also signed on for the Anniyan remake with Shankar and a love story with Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt.

Shahid Kapoor- 2 years

In a career spanning almost two decades, Shahid Kapoor has given successful films, but his biggest blockbuster as a solo lead came in 2019 with Kabir Singh. The film shattered all expectations and emerged a mammoth success and everyone was curious to know what Shahid’s follow up would be. The actor then signed the remake of Telugu film, Jersey, but pandemic increased the wait for his audience. Meanwhile, he has also signed on for his debut web show with Raj and DK and has shot for a part of it.

Hrithik Roshan- 1.5 years

After staying away from the big screen for a while, Hrithik made a banging return in 2019 with two successes, Super 30 and War. Both the films showed him in extremely different lights and he proved his acting skills with both. Everyone was counting on him to carry on that momentum, and there was a strong buzz of him doing the Satte Pe Satta remake with Farah Khan, but things eventually didn’t materialise. Eventually, it was this year on his birthday that the actor announced his maiden collaboration with Deepika Padukone, Fighter, that will reunite him with Siddharth Anand and is expected to release next year.
