Supreme Court granted Shah Rukh Khan a big relief in the 2017 stampede case where a man died of a heart attack at Vadodara Railway Station
Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan can now heave a sigh of relief! On Monday, Supreme Court upheld the Gujarat High Court's decision to quash a criminal case filed against SRK. SC granted the actor a big relief related to the 2017 stampede case in Vadodara Railway Station. For the unversed, during the promotions of his film ‘Raees’, Khan allegedly caused a stampede at Vadodara Railway Station as a huge crowd gathered at the station to catch a glimpse of the actor. Reportedly, Farheed Khan Pathan, a local politician, suffered a heart attack at the station during the stampede-like situation.
A few others were injured in the stampede incident. Congress leader Jitendra Madhubhai Solanki registered a private complaint against Shah Rukh. Now, as per the latest development in this case, a bench of justices comprised of Ajay Rastogi and C.T. Ravikumar rejected the appeal filed by the original complainant against the Gujarat High Court's April 2022 judgment. After the local court in Vadodara issued a summons to Shah Rukh, he moved to the high court against the summons. As reported by Hindustan Times, the bench of justices asked, “What was the fault of this man (Khan)? Just because he is a celebrity, it doesn’t mean he has no rights.” The court went on to point out that Shah Rukh is not expected to ensure everyone’s safety or provide a personal guarantee while traveling by train. “If somebody travels by train, there is no personal guarantee. A celebrity has equal rights like every other citizen of the country,” the court added.
SRK along with his production team was travelling from Mumbai to Delhi via train to promote his film ‘Raees’ and during the same, he threw t-shirts, and smiley balls at the crowd and this led to the stampede situation.
