Shahid Kapoor On Criticism For Kabir Singh: “I Don't Get Affected By Ek-Dedh Mahine Ke Comments”
Shahid Kapoor reacts on criticism to his film Kabir Singh which recently entered the 100 crore club. The actor said that he is not affected by ek-dedh mahine ke comments
Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh has received mixed reaction from the audiences. While the film is earning the required numbers, some critics are not satisfied with Shahid’s role in the movie. Kabir Singh is based on a house surgeon who goes into a self-destruction spiral after his girlfriend is forced to marry another man. Shahid plays the character of Kabir Singh as the lead in the film. The character of Kabir Singh is a surgeon who is self-destructive, hot-headed and angry. The actor has been slammed for glamourising misogyny and toxic masculinity, with several questioning his responsibility as an actor towards his audience.
Despite the negative wave around the film, the film is minting the money at the box-office and has already made its way into the 100-crore club. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directed movie is a remake of his Telugu blockbuster film Arjun Reddy whch stars Vijay Devarakonda in the lead role.
Recently in an interview with Bollywood Hungama after the release of the trailer of the film, Shahid Kapoor has openly spoken about the criticism the trailer has received. The actor clearly revealed how he is open to accepting criticism by saying, "I don't look at my filmography or my work as an actor anymore as an individual performance. I have grown over that," the actor told the website.
Later the actor added, "Jab aap shuru mai aate ho to aapke har performance pe sochte ho abhi log kya bolenge (In the beginning, you are affected by people's comments on each of your performances). I have been doing this for 15-16 years now. I have done about 30 films. For me, now it is about putting a body of work behind, so that when people see that, they see a variety of work. The larger picture is important."
Shahid also said, "I don't get affected by ek-dedh mahine ke liye ye jo comments aate hai; that is not important (I don't get affected by the comments that are bombarded at me for a month or half). Everything will find its meaning, once people will see it in totality (sic)."
"Five-seven films later, people talked about my performance in Jab We Met. Now that I have done Haider, Udta [Punjab], Kaminey and now this [Kabir Singh], people say yaar Jab We Met mein waisa tha, aur Kaminey mein usne aisa kiya (People say he was different in Jab We Met, Kaminey)," the Kabir Singh actor said.
Futher more the actor added, "So you have to be more mature and understand that people will speak like this, but you have a larger plan in mind. I have larger picture in my mind and I am working towards that."
While Shahid Kapoor and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga are basking in the glory of the movie’s success, the talk on misogyny continues. The film Kabir Singh hit the screens on June 21 this year and continues to do well at the ticket windows.
