Shor Se Shuruaat: Zoya Akhtar Mentors Amira Bhargava For Her Debut Short Film Aamer

Humara Movie has come up with an anthology of 7 short films titled Shor Se Shuruaat. The production house roped in filmmakers like Imtiaz Ali, Zoya Akhtar, Homi Adajania, Nagesh Kukunoor, Mira Nair, Sriram Raghavan and Shyam Benegal to mentor young filmmakers in a bid to bring new-age content to the audiences.
Today we got in touch with Zoya Akhtar's mentee, Amira Bhargava, who has directed the short film Aamer. With her film debut, she ticked two boxed off her bucketlist, turning director and collaborating with her idol, Zoya Akhtar.
The film follows the life of 10 year old Aamer, a hearing impaired boy living on the streets of Mumbai. Although his world is devoid of sound, he has a romance with the colours, textures and moods of his city. One day, he and his mother succeed in acquiring a hearing aid for him. That night, Aamer hears sound for the first time in his life.
But did he take the correct step forward by agreeing to wear the hearing aid? Well, in a sarcastic way, Amira dwells with this impertinent question - is a peaceful life of silence better or a cacophonous life of hearing?
Aamer, as a short satire, manages to bring in the flavours of realism keeping the innocence of a little boy intact, an interesting dichotomy that is a running theme in Dhvani
Shor Se Shuruaat will also feature other short films like Dhvani, Decibel, Azaad, Yellow Tin Can Telephone, Hell O Hello and Mia I'm - all made under the common theme of 'Shor' (Noise).
Shor Se Shuruaat releases worldwide December 16.
