In a recent interview with a news network, Sonam Kapoor mentions not being aware of the true situation in Kashmir and got trolled for it. Now, the actress gives it back to her detractors and asks them to calm down

The Government of India recently made the decision to revoke the Article 370 that granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. A lot of celebrities such as Kangana Ranaut, Anupam Kher, Chetan Bhagat, Raveena Tandon and more  spoke up about the issue and mostly were in support of the decision. The situation in the valley also garnered a lot of opinions and views of the celebrities. In a recent interview with BBC Asian Network, Sonam Kapoor expressed her view on the situation in Kashmir.

In the interview with BBC Asian Network, Sonam Kapoor said, "It’s heartbreaking to see where the situation has landed right now and I’m very patriotic. So I think for me now it’s better to keep quiet and let this pass because even this too shall pass.” She also admitted that she wasn’t aware of the true situation in the valley and that she can only give an opinion once she has complete information. “I believe in having a peaceful discourse and understanding what’s going on. So when I have the complete information is when I think I can give an opinion.” This statement of hers didn’t go down well with her detractors and Sonam Kapoor took to Twitter to give them a piece of her mind. She wrote, “Guys please calm down.. and get a life. Twisting, misinterpreting and understanding what you want from what someone has to say isn’t a reflection on the person who says it but on you. So self reflect and see who you are and hopefully get a job.”


This tweet was mostly met with support for Sonam Kapoor and people said that it was a brave thing rather than having half knowledge and using it unwisely. However, there were some who asked her to read on important topics before voicing her opinions.

Sonam Kapoor also spoke about her cultural ties and said that she is half Sindhi and half Peshawari. She also mentioned that it's very heartbreaking for her that she can't explore part of her culture because of the tense relations.
