Sooryavanshi: Farmers Stop Screening Of Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif's Starrer In Punjab's Hoshiarpur; Condemn The Actor For Not Supporting Their Protest
Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer 'Sooryavanshi' was released on the occasion of Diwali and the movie opened to rave reviews and is flying high at the Box Office. However, in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district, the Rohit Shetty’s directorial could not see the light of the day as a group of farmers, protesting against the three farm laws, on Saturday stopped the live screening of Sooryavanshi. The protesting farmers expressed their displeasure with Khiladi Kumar saying he did not support their protest.

As per a report in PTI, Activists of the Bharti Kisan Union (Kadian), led by the group’s district president Swaram Dhugga, staged a demonstration and a protest march from a local Shaheed Udham Singh Park to Swaran cinema against Sooryavanshi’s live screening. Some of the farmers also vent out their anger by tearing the posters of the movie put up outside the cinema halls. They forced the cinema hall authorities to stop the screening of the movie.

The group of agitated farmers asserted that they would not allow the screening of any of Akshay Kumar’s movies until the farm laws, passed by the central government, are repealed.

For the unversed, farmers have been protesting against the farm laws at Delhi borders for over 11 months now. They claim that these farm bills would take away their liberty to sell harvests and give corporates more control.

Hundreds of farmers are encamped at Delhi borders since November last year, demanding the government to repeal their three agri laws -- Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
