Model Sophie Choudry, who is regarded as a 90s evergreen pop queen, made an impressive comeback with her new song ‘Gori Hai’ which is a remix of the original song from Amitabh Bachchan’s film Aaj Ka Arjun. Sophie, who has been busy promoting the new number, in a recent interview opened up about how she copes with ageism and revealed that sometimes she gets messages from people telling her to ‘act her age.’ Sophie also spoke at length about her friend Malaika Arora getting trolled on social media almost every day.
Speaking with IndianExpress, Sophie when asked how she copes with ageism, stated, “My experience with ageism is a funny thing. Every day I get messages where people tell me they were in school when Ek Pardesi came out and now they look old, but I don’t. Once in a while I get messages of people telling me to ‘act my age’, but what’s that? I’ve never though of age as a number. People are always going to comment on social media.” ALSO READ: Sophie Choudry Wins The Internet With Her Version Of ‘Doobey’ From Deepika Padukone’s Gehraiyaan; Fans Say, ‘Amazing Magical Voice’
Further calling Malaika a 'strong woman', the model asserted that the Chaiyya Chaiyya girl is an inspiration to many women out there. “I’ve never been a person to judge anyone for anything, I know how hard this industry is, sitting outside it is easy to judge but this is a tough place to survive, so if you’re doing it, hats off to you,” Sophie further added.
For the unversed, Choudry started her singing career at the age of 12. She at first lent her voice as a backup singer to playback singers like Shweta Shetty and Alisha Chinai. Her song ‘Ek Pardesi Mera Dil Le Gaya’ was a hit and it earned her huge stardom and recognition. Sophie had also been a part of the reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 7.
