Yesterday came news of the cinematic world losing one of its eminent personalities, as legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee died after his prolonged illness. Breathing his last at the age of 85 in Kolkata he was hospitalized for 40 days and was reported of being critical since Friday, followed by which he passed away on Sunday. The actor was reported not responding to medical treatment and his health being deteriorated by Kolkata's Belle Vue Hospital’s doctor Arindam Kher. 

This sad news got Bollywood celebs such as Aamir Khan, Rajkummar Rao, Sayani Gupta, filmmaker Onir and more mourning the death of the legend and paying their last tribute. Aamir Khan just  a couple of minutes ago taking to his Twitter account wrote, “Indian Cinema has lost one of its leading lights. My heartfelt condolences to Soumitraji’s family, and to all his fans. His work will continue to bring joy to all of us. RIP Shri Soumitra Chatterjee”

On October 6, 2020, the actor was reported to have been detected with COVID-19 and followed by being hospitalized. He was shooting for a documentary titled Abhijan helmed by Parambrata Chattopadhyay. Dr. Arindam Kher of Kolkata's Belle Vue Hospital had said, “The team of doctors including neurologist, nephrologist, cardiologist, those from critical care medicine, infection disease specialist, both from public and private sectors, every one has put their effort to get the legend back from the critical stage, but it is not working.
