Subhash Chandra, Punit Goenka, Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor, Aditya Chopra Make It To Variety500

Another feather in cap for Bollywood! Besides Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan and Sidharth Roy Kapur, Variety 500 (an index of 500 most influential people across the globe) features names of Subhash Chandra, Punit Goenka, Karan Johar, Kishore Lulla, Ekta Kapoor, Uday Shankar and Aditya Chopra.

“Under Punit Goenka’s  (CEO & MD of Zee Entertainment Enterprises LTD) stewardship, the Zee bouquet of channels has grown to 33 Indian domestic and 38 international with a viewership of 1 billion spread across 171 countries that covers the gamut of the entertainment, sports and news spectrum. Financially, Goenka has steered the group to a year-on-year growth of nearly 20 percent, with revenues now at $867 million,” wrote Variety500.

Showering praises on Subhash Chandra (Founder & Chairman of Essel Group), Variety 500 wrote, “In a country where family dynasties are the dominant forces, Chandra has made his $6 billion fortune on his own. That has much to do with political connections he cultivated along the way and to reinventing himself several times over. He was a rice trader and a leisure park operator before moving into media.”

TV Czarina Ekta Kapoor, took to Twitter to announce to share her happiness. She wrote, “Proud to represent India in the @Variety 500 list of the most influential people in entertainment over the year. Thank you Variety. Honoured and humbled to be one of the 12 Indians on the list.”

Tagging him as one of the most visible faces of Indian entertainment industry, Variety500 reported about Karan Johar.  “The value of Johar in the Indian entertainment space is emphasized by the fact that Amazon Prime Video India’s first announced licensing deal for feature film content was with Dharma.

“Aditya Chopra (Chairman of Yash Raj Films) is an enigmatic and influential figure in the Indian media industry that refuses to be voluntarily photographed and yet is responsible for content that influences millions,” wrote Variety500.

Many congratulations to the achievers!
