Sultan Vs Dangal: Similarities and Dissimilarities!

The argument or the debate starts from the fact that are you a Salman Khan fan or an Aamir Khan fan?

Besides that, if your motive of replaying Dangal’s trailer was to see where all does it reminds you of Salman Khan’s Sultan then join my club.

For me, it started when Aamir Khan delivered his first dialogue in the trailer. Aamir’s Haryanvi accent (though far more authentic than Salman’s in Sultan) was the first OBVIOUS similarity.

Few scenes later, we spot Aamir riding a scooter just the way Salman did in Sultan.

The set-up of the village is again an obvious similarity between the two as both the stories root to the soils of Haryana. But again, the way few scenes from Dangal have been shot, replayed Sultan’s scenes in my mind.

The last scene in the trailer, where Aamir’s beefed-up back is shown is quite similar to Salman’s opening scene in Sultan, where he heads out for a fight.

Talking about the dissimilarities now, absence of the commercial touch is probably one of the prominent things which stood out in Aamir Khan’s Dangal which has a more ‘raw’ feel to it.

Unlike all his films, Aamir has shared the limelight with his on-screen daughters. Salman’s Sultan had Anushka Sharma as the lead. In Aamir’s Dangal, Sakshi Tanwar is playing his wife’s role. So, the commercial value of the film drops down.

Another point which sets apart both the films is the plot. While Sultan was also a romantic film besides being a sports drama, Dangal is primarily a sports drama with the backdrop of a father-daughter’s relationship.

Lastly, Salman Khan’s Sultan had some foot-tapping numbers. But looking at Dangal’s flavour, doesn’t look it will have a lot of songs. At the most it might just have situational songs unfolding the story of the film.

Now which film you choose between the two is your call. As I mentioned in the beginning of my article, a lot will be decided on the fact that whose fan are you-Salman or Aamir?
