Sutapa Sikdar On Watching Sardar Udham Shares Vicky Kaushal Reminded Her Of Her Late Husband Irrfan Khan
Vicky Kaushal starrer Sardar Udham helmed by Shoojit Sircar premiered on the OTT platform. Makers also hosted a special screening of the movie in town, along with many Bollywood celebs, late actor Irrfan Khan’s wife Sutapa Sikdar also graced the screening. In an interview, the late actor’s wife had revealed playing Sardar Udham on-screen was Irrfan Khan’s dream role. After watching the movie, his wife shared Vicky portraying the freedom fighter onscreen reminded her of her beloved husband.

She told India Today, “When I looked at Vicky on screen, many pages of diaries flooded my memories. I remembered Irrfan’s excitement to do Sardar Udham and his childlike happiness whenever he had a tough role to do. Looking at Vicky, I remembered Irrfan in National School of Drama (NSD). It is unfair to compare both of them at this stage, because Irrfan was much older to Vicky in experience and age when he was to do the film.”

She added witnessing the same amount of passion and love Irrfan had for cinema in Vicky’s eyes, “But, I saw glimpses of passion, dedication, hard work and love for cinema in Vicky’s face just like Irrfan. I am sure Irrfan is happy up there to see Vicky play Sardar Udham Singh. After all, it was Irrfan’s dream role!”


Irrfan Khan was supposed to star in this movie, but due to his illness and early death, the makers got in Vicky Kaushal to play the key role. Also, Shoojit Sircar waited for 21 years to get the story of Sardar Udham Singh to the screens. The movie is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video and has garnered positive reviews.
