This morning we brought you the story that Ranaut sisters have now sparked ageism debate in Bollywood. Saand Ki Aankh is round the corner and Kangana's nemesis Taapsee Pannu plays a character much older than her real age. Who knows, the recent history that Kangana and Taapsee share, might have prompted Rangoli to put that tweet. We'll come to that history for those who've come in late, but let us first tell you the blow-by-blow flow of the ageism row.

After a few netizens said they would have loved to see slightly older actress like Neena Gupta, Shabana Azmi or others playing the role of Chand Tomar (Bhumi Pednekar) or Prakashi Tomar (Taapsee Pannu) in Saand Ki Aankh when its trailer went online yesterday, Kangana ’s sister Rangoli Chandel  took to social media to slam a few filmmakers for not casting a slightly older actress. Rangoli also revealed that Saand Ki Aankh was first offered to Kangana but the Tanu Weds Manu star had suggested Neena Gupta’s name to the makers. Rangoli’s tweet read, “Rangoli wrote, “Neena ji Kangana was offered this movie and she loved the true story of Grandmom’s achievements she suggested yours and Ramya Krishnan ma’am’s name for lead roles but these men can’t remove deeply rooted sexism from their filthy brains...”

This sparked off a tweet from Neena Gupta, which read, "Yes, I was just thinking about this hamari umar ke role toe kamsekam hamse karalo bhai"

When contacted, Taapsee said pronto, "I have said more than enough. People who wanted to understand have understood and those who didn't, too sad for them.

I wonder if anyone said this to Anupam Kher when he did Saaransh.I wonder if someone questioned Aamir Khan when he played a collegian in 3 Idiots. I wonder if anyone will question Ayushmann Khurrana for the forthcoming movie (Read: Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdhan) he plays gay in, when this wonderful actress (Read: Neena Gupta) is in the same film itself.

Rangoli has also tweeted..:

Taapsee told SpotboyE.com EXCLUSIVELY, "Why didn't we cast people of the same age, gender or sexuality in the above cases?

The point is who wants to listen and who wants to create issues out of nothing."

If Rangoli and Neena had a point, Taapsee has it too. 


Think of it, didn't (late) Sanjeev Kumar play older than his age in Sholay and Trishul?

Now for Kangana-Taapsee recent history: Taapsee had said that Kangana needs a double filter, and not only just Kangana but also her (Taapsee) and Anurag Kashyap too. Next, Rangoli addressed Taapsee on social media as Kangana’s “sasta” copy and Pannu had an extremely candid reply to it, when we'd caught up with her for an interview. “If she thinks I am a copy of Kangana in any way, sasta or mehenga, I take it as a compliment because she is a really good actress. Maybe Rangoli said ‘sasta copy’ because according to her, Kangana is the highest paid actress today, so in that reference, I might be a sasti copy because definitely I don’t earn as much as she does."



We had also reminded Taapsee of the humorous comment she posted on Varun Dhawan’s tweet, taking a jibe at Rangoli’s validation comment and she is quick to respond, “I don’t take myself too seriously, but I take my job seriously. I respect myself and people around, respect me. I don’t hold on to grudges. And my sense of humour is an integral part of my personality. Even while replying to trolls, I don’t use cheap language or get abusive, my replies have a sarcastic humour. I like to keep things light.”

Later, Taapsee had told Mid-day, “She (Kangana) has always spoken about how a woman should support another woman, but I did not hear any words of praise for my film."

And what is the Varun Dhawan tweet thing, if you asking- here it is: Rangoli Chandel had nudged Varun Dhawan for missing out Kangana Ranaut's name in his Judgemental Hai Kya appreciation tweet, soon Taapsee had pulled Varun's leg for missing out Bhumi Pednekar's and her name in his Saand Ki Aankh tweet, which came up few days after Judgmental Hai Kya.
