Tanishaa Mukerji Faces Racism At A New York Hotel, Calls It "Insulting" And "Traumatic"

Tanishaa Mukerji, who is in New York to attend the CRY America charity event, was subjected to racist remarks by the staff of The Jane hotel. The incident took place while she was partying with her friends in the hotel’s club when one of the employees misbehaved with her.

Recounting the incident to Mid-Day Tanishaa said, “I don’t understand what triggered it as I was polite, but he turned rude. One of the employees, an African-American, said that we looked as if we were fresh off the boat and couldn’t speak English. That was insulting and blatantly racist. My friends and I were shocked. It’s traumatic to experience this kind of racism in the US; I have never faced it earlier.”

Shaken by the incident Tanishaa said she even approached the hotel authorities who were of no help. “I told them to call the cops, but they refused to do so,” she said. Tanishaa even tried to record the incident on the phone, but was interrupted by the staff and decided to walk out of the hotel.

“I was trying to record the incident on my camera. The video I posted online ends abruptly because the guy stopped me and told me to switch my recorder off. It’s unfortunate when you experience something like this in a land that stands for rights and liberty. I am saddened that an African-American behaved like this, considering they have experienced discrimination themselves,” Tanishaa added.

Tanishaa was a part of Ramgopal Varma’s Sarkar and is known for her controversial stay in the Bigg Boss house. Recently, she was seen on the reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi.
