Pranutan Bahl reveals the advice that her father, actor Mohnish Bahl, gave her before she decided to join films
Pranutan Bahl made her way into films with the 2019 Salman Khan Productions’ Notebook. The film featured Zaheer Iqbal opposite her and told the story of a young retired army officer who joins his father's school as a teacher to save it from closure, and falls in love with the previous teacher after reading through her memorabilia left behind in the drawers. The film did not perform well commercially but garnered praise from critics, especially for the lead pair’s performances.
Pranutan comes from a lineage that has been a part of the film industry for a long time. Her grandmother is yesteryear superstar, late Nutan and her father is Mohnish Bahl, who has been a successful actor both in TV and films.
So, when she decided to join films, did Pranutan’s father have any advice for her? “Yes, he asked me if I was ready to not have a job all the time,” she shares, explaining the context behind. “He told me that it’s a very insecure business and just because you are a good actor, it doesn’t mean you are going to get work. He repeatedly asked me if I was sure as I had just completed Law and was doing well there. But I was sure,” she smiles.
However, having been in the industry for almost two years now, does she agree with Mohnish’s assessment? “I completely agree with it. It is very insecure. Every day you are not at work, you want to be at work. But that’s not how it works. Our choices are very crucial, especially in this stage of my career and this category that just narrows it down. But it’s all worth the happiness of being in front of the camera,” she gushes.
Pranutan reveals that there is a lesson that she has learnt while observing her father’s career over the years. “Just keep getting good at your craft because nobody in the world can take that away from you. Not even networking, contacts, bad publicity nonsense or yellow journalism. Nothing can take that away from you when you are good at your craft and are a good human being. So, continue to do that,” she concludes.
