Vardhan Puri Shares Some Unknown Stories About His Grandfather Amrish Puri That Anupam Kher And Satish Kaushik Told Him- EXCLUSIVE
In 2019, Vardhan Puri, Amrish Puri’s grandson, made his big screen debut with the thriller Yeh Saali Aashiqui. He got his second project with Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s next directorial, The Last Show, where he is working with two Bollywood veterans, Anupam Kher and Satish Kaushik.

Both Anupam and Satish have worked with his grandfather too, with Anupam and Amrish Puri’s most popular collaboration being Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, where they played Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s father respectively. As for Satish and Amrish Puri, they had worked in various films including Mr India and Ram Lakhan, and Satish had even directed the late legend in Badhai Ho Badhai and Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai.

Ask Vardhan if, while working with the two veterans, they told him any stories about his grandfather and he answers in the affirmative. “Anupam ji told me that even though my grandfather was very senior to him, he would pull pranks on him. Even though my grandfather used to be very serious during his preparations, he had a great laugh whenever Anupam ji pulled his pranks on him,” he shares.

Vardhan goes on to narrate one incident that Satish told him about his grandfather. “Satish ji told me about this one time during one of his films when one actor wasn’t able to do his lines properly. Dadu had just a 15-minute scene that day and he was completely ready, but because the other actor couldn’t complete his scene, dadu had to wait for his scene for about four hours. At one point, dadu got very angry and upset because even the assistants had no answer to give to him. When he stormed off on the set angrily, Satish ji held him and explained the situation to him and he understood it instantly. He told me how empathetic and sensitive dadu was,” he informs gleefully.

Vardhan insists that working with Anupam and Satish helped him get to know his dadu better. “I got to know about a very naughty, child-like side of my grandfather. I had seen a glimpse of it at home but I never saw him on set. I used to think that he was very serious on set, which he was, but I didn’t know that after pack up, he was a prankster too,” he signs off with a laugh.
