Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Shikara Gets A Release Date, Film On Kashmiri Pandits To Release On November 8

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s next film titled Shikara is all set to release on November 8, 2019. The film reportedly narrates a tale of Kashmiri Pandits who had been washed out of the valley after the rise of militancy.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Shikara Gets A Release Date, Film On Kashmiri Pandits To Release On November 8
Vidhu Vinod Chopra who is the mastermind behind films like Sanju, 3 Idiots, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S and many more has now come up a film based on Kashmiri Pandits. The film titled Shikara - A love letter from Kashmir has been directed by the filmmaker. It is reportedly based on the life of a Kashmiri Pandit who had to exit the beautiful valley as militancy took charge in 90s. Shikara – A love letter from Kashmir now has a release date. It is slated to release on November 8, 2019. 

The official announcement of the release date was made by the official Instagram account of Vidhu Vinod Chopra's production house. The film marks the comeback of Vidhu Vinod Chopra as the director. While he has produced films like Sanju and more, it is only after almost 12 years that he is returning as a director. The last film he directed was Eklavya: The Royal Guard. 


As per several reports, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has roped in many local Kashmiri migrants and popular faces from the vallery for this film. He reportedly wrote the script of this film with the help of a local Kashmiri writer. The shooting of Shikara – A love letter from Kashmir began in the month of March 2018 and the filmmaker shot a few scenes in the migrant camps. 

The makers of the film have got the timing of the release of the film just right as currently a nationwide debate on Section 370 is on.  Since the Government took away the autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir, the country is divided with some supporting and some disapproving of it.
