Vidya Balan Turns Shammi Kapoor's Wife!

Vidya Balan has sprung a surprise. SpotboyE.com has it that she has signed a Marathi film Ek Albela based on the life of (late) comedian Bhagwan.

The Paa actress has even started shooting for the same since evening. A source close to the film says, "Vidya will essay Geeta Bali's character, which is an important role in the film- but not lengthy; it's a special appearance. She needs to shoot with us for about a week."

Geeta Bali worked with Bhagwan on a few films- Albela (1951), to name one. A source says, "Since there is no ready reference material available on Bhagwan Dada, it took a lot of time in doing research on the film. Most of the negatives of Bhagwan dada's films were destroyed in fire and no films prior to Albela are available for reference."

On August 23, 1955, Geeta married Shammi Kapoor, with whom she was working in the film Coffee House. They had two children, a son (Aditya Raj Kapoor) and a daughter (Kanchan). She died on January 21, 1965, having contracted smallpox while shooting a Punjabi film, Rano, based on a novel Eik Chadar Maili Si. Rajinder Singh Bedi who was directing the film was devastated by her untimely death and abandoned the project. He wrote later that he had put the novel on her burning funeral pyre. Shammi married Neela Devi after Geeta Bali's death.
