WHAT! Not Kajol But Karan Johar Wanted To Cast Aishwarya Rai Bachchan In Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham; Says ‘She Was Married, Wanted To Start A Family’
Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar’s hit classic, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) is one of the most celebrated movies. Starring an ensemble cast of Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, the film has a special place in the audience’s heart. While no one can suit SRK’s Rahul better that Kajol’s Anjali, during one of past interviews Karan had admitted that he wanted Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to essay the female lead’s role.

Yes, you read that right! In an interaction with Komal Nahta, the 51-year-old filmmaker had expressed how he wanted to cast Aishwarya for the role of Anjali as Kajol had just gotten married. He went on to explain how he thought that the actress, who had earlier worked with in Kuch Kuch Hota, was planning to start a family. While he was adamant on casting Ash in the movie, he still met with Kajol once. He added, “On that particular day, at 3 p.m. I reached Kajol’s studio and I thought she will say no, we will shed some tears and I will leave.” ALSO READ: India’s Got Talent 10: Karan Johar To Make His RETURN As The Reality Show’s Judge? He further revealed that when he told Kajol about the story, she wanted to work on it, which led him to not meet Aishwarya. Karan went on to talk about how ever since because of something or the other he wasn’t able to work with her until Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). Talking about the same, the 49-year-old actress, in an interview with DNA, has revealed that Karan had pitched her K3G. Quoted by Indian Express, she said, “He (Karan Johar) did come to me with K3G also but then, his script went in for a change. So the character did change. I know that for sure because I know what was narrated to me and what I saw on screen eventually was different. Of course, Kajol was fabulous. But that also went and I could not do it.”

On the work front, Karan Johar is all set to make his comeback as a director with Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh starrer Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.
