Megastar Amitabh Bachchan in an old interview revealed that the late actress Smita Patil had a premonition of his major accident on the sets of Coolie a day before. Yes, you read that right! Smita was known to have a great sixth sense, in fact, she reportedly had premonition her own death at 31. Speaking with Lehren, Big B had revealed that a day before his accident, Smita called him to keep a check on him as she had a bad dream about him.
Recalling the incident, the veteran actor said, “I was staying at the West End Hotel. One night, at about one, I got a call in my room. The operator said Smita Patil wants to talk to you. I first thought it was a prank. But then I took the call and it was Smita. She said, Amit-ji, I am sorry to disturb you, but are you okay? I said, yes, I am fine. She said, no I just got up and I had a very bad dream. Amitabh revealed next day only he met with a horrifying accident in Bangalore while he was shooting for the film. The Sholay actor sustained serious injuries and underwent several surgeries and remained in ICU for a few months. The 80-year-old actor further mentioned Smita Patil was a regular visitor when he was in the hospital. “Next morning I had my accident. It was just unbelievable. Throughout the two or three months I was in the ICU, she was a regular visitor. When I came home, she would come every evening and enquire about me. I can never forget that. She was a unique lady,” Big B stated.
Amitabh and Smita had worked together in several films like 'Namak Halaal', 'Ghulami', 'Shakti' and 'Pet Pyaar Aur Paap.'
For the unversed, Smita Patil died on December 13, 1986, at the age of 31. She left for her heavenly abode after 15 days of giving birth to her son Prateik Babbar. The actress reportedly passed away due to childbirth complications.
