Throwback to when Ranbir Kapoor and Pakistani actress Mahira Khan's rumoured love story and their smoking pictures brewed a storm across the internet
Ranbir Kapoor, at present, is in a happy space with girlfriend Alia Bhatt, but there was also a time when he was known as the ultimate Casanova of Bollywood. The actor, who was linked with several celebrities and has had a long dating history, was also rumoured to have an affair with Pakistani actress Mahira Khan back in 2017. Well, adding fuel to the fire was a couple of viral pictures that saw Ranbir Kapoor and Mahira Khan bonding over smoking in NYC.
Their dating rumours first sparked in the March of 2017 when the duo graced Dubai’s Global Teacher Prize event. A video, in fact, showing Ranbir and Mahira engrossed in an intense conversation got fans wondering if they are a thing. But then came a set of their ‘smoky hot’ pictures that saw Mahira in a backless white dress, while Ranbir was wearing a beige tee. The two were at the spot for a long time and had a good chat.
These pictures, unsurprisingly, didn’t go down well with a section of the internet and the two, especially Mahira Khan was brutally trolled. While many accused her of disrespecting her religion, others just shamed the actress because that’s what trolls usually do.

Their dating rumours were, however, quashed by the actress through a cryptic post on her Instagram. She posted an image that read, “First of all, no. And second of all, no,” along with the caption “For mostly everything”.

Well, it was being reported that Ranbir and Mahira’s alleged relationship went downhill because of all the criticism and the mounting tension between India and Pakistan added it to. The duo mutually parted ways.
In an interview with NDTV, Ranbir was quoted as saying, “I’ve gotten to know Mahira in a personal capacity over the last few months. She is somebody who I admire and respect, for her achievements and even more for the person she is. It is very unfair the way she is being judged and spoken about. What is also sad is the inequality in judgment just because she is a woman. I request you to stop the negativity and move on with your beautiful God-gifted lives. Peace and love. PS: Both smoking and hate are injurious to health.”
Mahira, on the other hand, “That was the first time in my entire career that I was caught up in a so-called controversy and it was strange because there were so many things in that. One, obviously you feel violated, you are in a personal downtime moment and someone has just photographed you.”
