Why Sonam Is Sour About Rajiv Rai And Married Again
Yesteryears' actress Sonam has found love again and started life afresh. Her ex-husband Rajiv Rai, on the other hand, is still running from pillar to post to tie up his comeback film. Read on to know why this love story did not have a happy ending
Yesterday, we brought you Sonam's frank and freewheeling interview talking about her divorce to Rajiv Rai and finding love again in Dr Murali Poduval. Sonam's answers clearly spelt out that she wouldn't like to have any contact with Rajiv hereafter.
SpotboyE.com spoke to a few sources close to the couple and they divulged: 'The marriage was over since nearly 20 years."

A friend of the couple blames solely Rajiv for the split and spoke to SpotboyE.com on request of anonymity. "Rajiv grew up in a boarding school. After he came back from boarding, he was a completely different child. There was no angst in him but he was extremely detached from the world. He couldn't get close to even a friend and have feelings for him."
"And this is exactly what happened after he married Sonam. He was extremely aloof and always in his own world. Sonam felt very neglected. People close to them even spoke that how was this a love marriage. Rajiv seldom spent quality time with her. Even when it came to parenting their son Gaurav, Rajiv was hardly around."
Where was he going, we asked? "Well, he very much wanted to put a film together. He kept coming to Mumbai, leaving her in Switzerland. He stayed in Mumbai for a large part of the year."
And then? "After a certain time, frustration started getting the better of Rajiv. The industry was changing and he was not able to adapt to its new ways. The studio culture started getting dominant and they all wanted directors who could get an A-list actor with him on board. Rajiv could not get this part going in his favour. This then started affecting him so much that his personal life too took a further beating."
"Gaurav and Sonam later shifted to Pondicherry for Gaurav's higher studies. Even then, Rajiv refused to spend more time with them. He continued to remain in Mumbai trying to figure out how he can kick off a project with an A-list hero. If and when he visited Pondicherry, it was barely for few days."
At this point of time, Sonam initiated the divorce. Rajiv didn't want to separate from her legally. But Sonam was adamant. Seeing no way out, Rajiv consented.
Another friend of the couple said that the huge age difference between them too played a role in Rajiv and Sonam's estrangement. Sonam is 19 years younger than her ex-husband.
Did Sonam meet Murali before she filed for divorce? "No, Murali came into her life after she signed on the divorce papers. But yes, Murali helped her emotionally in that difficult phase."
The rest, as they say, is history.
