Zareen Khan's 1921 BLACKED OUT By Multiplexes; Reliance Entertainment FIGHTS Them HEAD-ON!

In case, you
opened your movie booking App to buy tickets for Vikram Bhatt’s 1921 (produced
by Reliance Entertainment) and were surprised to see that the most prominent
multiplexes are not playing the film, then here’s the reason for it.
Well yes, 1921,
starring Zareen Khan and Karan Kundra has released today but the film has NOT
hit big multiplexes like PVR, INOX, Carnival Cinemas and Cinepolis.

Reason for this?
Well, dictatorship of these multiplexes BTW has not just shot up today,
but has been harassing producers past few months.
Had a big fish
like Reliance Entertainment was not involved this time, the matter would have
still stayed behind closed doors.

The above mentioned multiplexes have refused to release Reliance
Entertainment’s 1921, directed by Vikram Bhatt, as they wanted the producers to
sign a deal with them stating that they will not give away the satellite rights
of the film for 8 weeks to any channel or digital platform as that leads to a
reduced footfall in theatres.

However, Reliance
refuses to bow down to this demand. The producers had sold
the satellite rights of the film in April 2017, making it impossible for them to
step back from their deal with the channel- OTT platform.
In either case Reliance
feels that what these multiplexes are asking for will result in big loses to
the producers, especially of small budget films, as they recover costs majorly
by selling film’s satellite rights.
What’s shocking
is that many small-budget films like Kamal Mukut’s Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana,
T-series’ Tumhari Sulu and Viacom’s House Next Door have fallen prey to this
dictatorship.

“Films of such
stature cannot afford to telecast their films 9 weeks after its release, the
buzz fizzles out in no time because of which they don’t get a good price for
the rights.” informs a source from the trade.

spoke to Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana producer Kamal Mukut about the on-going
disparity. He seemed extremely upset and said, “I have incurred huge losses
thanks to their dadagiri. It’s just unfair that just few days before the film’s
release, these multiplexes come out with such demands, which make no sense. I
sold my film to Zee TV months back, how can I call off the deal last moment
with the channel?”
When we contacted
Vikram Bhatt to know about the development, he said, “I am hoping it will
resolve soon and everyone will see things in the right perspective.”

Negotiations are however still on. Unlike other
helpless producers, Reliance maintains its stand- as we go online. Ditto of multiplexes in question. Tragic.
P.S. The matter was resolved by afternoon, but 1921 lost the morning shows.
