While I always appreciate the actresses’ confidence and the hard work they put in to work out their looks for the festival, what’s also important is whether their efforts paid back or not! So, let’s see what happened yesterday at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival.
Priyanka Chopra made her debut at Cannes this year. I have lot of expectations from PeeCee every time she puts on her best outfit for events. This time too when pictures of the actress wearing a white Honayda creation, hair pulled back neatly and brown lips, hit the web space, I almost knew that this diva has done it again! She rocked the look, which kind of was inspired by Lady Diana’s avatar at Cannes, long back. PeeCee deserves a 10 on 10 for her day look.
However, when it came to her red carpet avatar in a Roberto Cavalli couture gown with Christian Louboutin pumps, I was highly disappointed. The Chopard earrings were probably the only thing standing out in the actress, and I wonder if playing down the outfit was done for the same reason, as Priyanka was at Cannes for Chopard. But then again, the earrings didn’t blend well with her shimmery gown. Hair was beautifully styled in tight waves but make-u- a bit underwhelming, I’d say! This look gets a 7 on 10.
Coming to Deepika Padukone, the lady is just grace personified, no matter what she wears. Even when she pushes the envelope, Dippy manages it so well that it looks almost flawless. Take a ‘bow’ (pun intended) for the actress’ Dundas creation turned heads and how! Though I have a little complain with the bottom of the gown which looks a bit chaotic but the dramatic belt with a humongous bow, the plunging neckline, the catty eyes and of course, the pony as high as Eiffel tower, did the trick for Deepika. Good efforts and the lady pulls it off easily. I give a 9 on 10.
And lastly, the one from whom I expected fireworks but got delivered with frozen Popsicle! Kangana Ranaut messed-up big time with both her looks. The golden Kanchivaram saree by Madhurya with the custom Falguni and Shane Peacock corset looked beautiful, had she worn it without the peplum waist belt and ditched the red velvet gloves. Full marks for trying the unconventional but unfortunately the end result didn’t please my eyes. And the misery got worse with her clunky Saint Laurent sandals.
The second look, again, highly disappointing! The pant suit with a dangerously low neckline looked like the actress is trying too hard to make a statement. For actress' love for fashion and experimenting something different, I give Kangy a 6 on 10 for both looks. Come on Kangna, I really want to see the fashionista come alive in your second appearance at Cannes!
