The Tim Burton helmed Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is a disappointment and even a stellar cast like Eva Green, Dame Judi Dench and Samuel L. Jackson cannot salvage this film.

What do you get when you cast some of the finest acting talents in a film that’s inspired from a popular book that’s released just a couple of years ago? You get Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children that stars Eva Green, Samuel L. Jackson, Dame Judi Dench and others. But does the film live up to the talent-heavy cast that it has? SpotboyE.com brings you the review.

Jake (Asa Butterfield) is a young boy who’s taken to a psychiatrist after the mysterious death of his grandfather, Abraham (Abe) Portman (Terence Stamp). All his life, Abe told his grand-kid that he lived in a home for the gifted somewhere in a little Welsh island, run by the mysterious character Miss Peregrine (Eva Green). When Jake finally finds proof of the home, he and his dad take a trip – and that’s where everything changes for Jake forever.

There is always a dearth of good, standalone fantasy stories and Hollywood repeatedly tries to fill the gap without a big ticket, superhero blockbuster.

Sometimes it wins and sometimes it doesn’t. Unfortunately, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is not going to fill in any gaps. There were so many things that worked against this film, right from the dawdling first half to the unfortunate decision to shoot the film in 3D.

The moment Tim Burton decided to do away with brightness and vibrant colours for that one ‘awww’ 3D moment, the fate of the film was a foregone conclusion.

The film is just shell of the classic Tim Burton that we knew and grew up with. Yes, those larger-than-life monsters are there, the hint of a dark storyline behind all the characters still exists, but somehow, something’s missing in this Tim Burton film.

This is a sad thing, because his name still gathers enough heft to get some of the best names in the business. So, we have Eva Green playing Miss Peregrine, Dame Judi Dench coming out of whatever kind of hiatus she has been to play a walk-in role, Samuel L. Jackson makes an appearance as the antagonist towards the end of the film. There’s so much potential and so much talent all around, and when such a film lacks entertainment value, it hurts.

But of course, look at the film from a franchise point-of-view and you get a decent anchor for films that can be great in the future.

Final verdict, the film has interesting characters, a treasure trove of talent and the concept is awesome on paper, but it somehow fails to translate into entertaining fare.
