Movie Review: The Conjuring 2 will give you sleepless nights

Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren have had their share of fame and they aren’t too kicked up about it. Even as the chorus -- that they are lying about paranormal activities -- increases, Lorraine has visions that force her and Ed to go on a sort of hiatus.
While they are just beginning to enjoy an idyllic lifestyle, the Church comes knocking. A family in London is allegedly in the grasp of evil and the Church needs conclusive proof that it is the devil’s handiwork. What happens next forms the rest of the story.

The Conjuring 2 is so good, it is bound to garner more fans for the franchise.
Set in the ‘70s, the film is compelling and intelligent. What sets it apart from almost every other horror flick is the fact that it is based on real, documented events.
Having said that, The Conjuring 2 cannot be restricted to just horror genre. Underneath all that spook and smoke is a suspense track. There’s also the sweet love story between Ed and Lorraine.

Director James Wan has done an extremely good job. Understating the horror sequences and concentrating on the characters’ emotional conflict and connect instead, Wan takes us right amidst the Hodgson and Warren families. Special points to Joseph Bishara for a great music score that sets the pace.
Vera Farmiga (Lorraine) is excellent as the hard-as-nails woman who will do everything to save her family. Patrick Wilson (Ed) also delivers a strong performance. He is comfortable knocking down a locked door and settling down with a guitar for an impromptu ‘Fools Rush In’.
What this franchise also succeeds in doing is giving us a unique set of heroes -- a happily married couple who believes in each other and strives to make the world a better place.
Quite frankly, nothing to hate here. Just go watch it.
