Harry Potter Author JK Rowling SLAMMED By Twitterati For Transphobic Tweets About Menstruation: ‘It’s Incredibly Disappointing’
JK Rowling, the author of Harry Potter books, has a massive following and popularity worldwide and is admired by her readers. However, the author came under fire and faced massive backlash over her recent ‘anti-transgender’ tweets about menstruation. Netizens were disappointed with her and called her out for her remarks. On Sunday, JK Rowling became the top trend on Twitter, as people schooled her about the comments she made. While the author tried and defended herself in her following tweets, it only made things worse.

JK Rowling first reposted an article titled, “Opinion: Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate." Rowling wrote, "‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?" Her tweet suggesting only women menstruate drew social media ire. While one user wrote, “Hi! I'm a man! I menstruate! Stop being an a**hole!," while another user wrote, "Christ, you are such a colossal disappointment.” Twitterati was furious and they schooled her about transgender people, non-binary people, gender-nonconforming people also menstruate.

JK Rowling further tweeted, “If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth.”

She continued, “The idea that women like me, who’ve been empathetic to trans people for decades, feeling kinship because they’re vulnerable in the same way as women - ie, to male violence - ‘hate’ trans people because they think sex is real and has lived consequences - is a nonsense."

JK Rowling’s tweets did not go down well and many were disappointed. While one user wrote, “You're a great writer. This is a good time for you to become a great reader,” another one wrote, “You’re a smart person. How do you not yet understand the difference between sex and gender? The only way I can possibly explain your ignorance at this point is willfulness. It’s incredibly disappointing.” ALSO READ: Alia Bhatt Transports Us To The Magical World Of Harry Potter; Reads A Chapter From The Sorcerer’s Stone; It’s Magical-WATCH
