Hollywood’s Work Plans Look Uncertain Amid Surge In Coronavirus Cases In The US; Productions To Relocate To Europe?
Coronavirus pandemic has brought lives to a standstill, and many countries are deeply affected as COVID-19 cases continue to rise. The USA saw a major spike in Coronavirus cases, and in the wake of the surge of numbers, Hollywood’s back-to-back work plans seem uncertain. The entertainment industry has been hard hit by the outbreak, as shooting for films and TV had been brought to a halt. Unemployment was on the rise, and while a few shows such as The Bachelorette and The Bold and the Beautiful had begun getting back to work, they began on the assumption that COVID-19 cases would slowly begin to drop, providing a safer environment.

However, that hasn’t happened so far, and in fact, the numbers of COVID-19 cases have only increased. In the wake of the situation in the US, looks like a few productions are starting to contemplate moving to locations with minimized COVID-19 cases. With not a lot of options left in the US, Variety reports that a few productions seem to be turning to Europe, where the situation is relatively under control. David Minkowski, head of production for Stillking Films told Variety, “I’ve received more than a few calls from studios and producers looking to relocate their productions to one our European bases in Prague, Budapest, and Bucharest. They are looking for safe havens from otherwise hot spots in the U.S. and also certain European countries.”

The report in Variety also states that many studios are already set to start production in the UK. While Jurassic Park is scheduled to begin in July, Mission Impossible 7 will commence from September.


But of course, there are several issues involved with relocating production to another location, a few of which include the cost that will be associated with moving, as well as stage space.
