Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara, who got engaged last year, have reportedly welcomed their first child last month. Joaquin Phoenix who has managed to win the hearts of several fans globally with his performance in the 2019 Crime-drama based movie, Joker, and fiancé, Rooney Mara were reportedly expecting their first child, a few months back. The Carol star was already six months pregnant back them when the news about the stars becoming parents soon, hit headlines. As per reports, their baby boy’s name has an emotional dedication to a beloved Phoenix family member.

According to a report in Just Jared, Gunda director Victor Kossakovsky was the one who shared the good news at the 2020 Zurich Film Festival. Victor who is screening his film for which Joaquin is the executive producer confirmed the news during a Q&A session.  Victor Kossakovsky said, “He just got a baby, by the way. His name was... a beautiful son called River, so he cannot promote it now.” The Gunda director shared that Phoenix and Mara have named their first child ‘River’ as he confirmed the Joker actor has been blessed with a baby boy.

Although the Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara haven’t confirmed the news about their son’s arrival, the couple hadn’t even announced the pregnancy or shared any details regarding the same with the media. Apart from that, the couple has named their baby boy River after Joaquin’s elder brother River Phoenix, who sadly passed away in 1993. As the Joker actor pays homage to his late beloved brother, River Phoenix passed away at the young age of 23.


Meanwhile, during an interview with Anderson Cooper for 60 Minutes, Joaquin Phoenix had earlier shared how he always felt River’s presence in his work. "There's always been a presence in all of our work in the past that we took individually and collectively. Absolutely (feeling River's presence in his work)... in virtually every movie that I made, there was a connection to River in some way. Joker star Joaquin Phoenix, who is known for his stellar performance in the show has bagged numerous Best Actor awards, including an Academy and a Golden Globe.
