Joaquin Phoenix starrer Joker released on October 2, 2019. The film which made headlines ever since it hit the theaters has been making waves with its unusual content. The film has reached another milestone as the $62.5 million-budgeted DC Films flick has crossed $1 billion (Rs 71635 million) in global ticket sales on Friday. Not only that, but it has also become the first R-rated Hollywood and the third non-Disney/Universal movie to do so within a year.

A report in Forbes.com states, “In 2012, there were four $1 billion grossers in one year, with two from Warner Bros (The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey), one from Disney (The Avengers) and one from Sony (Skyfall). Two of those were 2-D flicks and none of them earned more than $86 million in China.
