As per the strict rules and regulations by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which hosts and coordinates the award ceremony every year, winners cannot sell their Oscar trophies without first offering to sell it back to the Academy for $ 1, which then beings the value of an Oscar to a mere $1. This regulation also applies to the family members of Oscar winners, who have passed away. The winner cannot sell the trophy to anyone or anywhere else except for the official Academy organisation. Talking about the statuettes, they are dense, 13.5 inches and weigh 8.5 pounds, which is equivalent to a newborn baby. They are usually just gold-plated, the beneath of which is bronze and not gold. Every year, crores are spent in making a trophy that every star wishes to have in his/her drawing-room, but only the best ones receive. On that note, we can’t for the big night already!
