Joe Jonas and wife Sophie Turner were blessed with their firstborn last week and are nothing but overjoyed. The Games of Thrones actress gave birth to a baby girl and representative of the couple confirmed the same in a statement on Monday with E!News. The statement read, “Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are delighted to announce the birth of their baby.” Later, TMZ.com disclosed that Sophie and Joe have named their daughter Willa. As the couple named their daughter Willa, here’s the meaning behind the name. Read On to know details!
According to a baby name website ohbabynames.com, the name Willa translates to ‘wil helmet’ or ‘absolute protection’, as per old German culture. The baby name website says that the name is the English feminine version of William, which is derived from the Germanic words ‘wil’ which means ‘will, or desire’ and ‘helm’ which means ‘helmet, or protection’.
As Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ daughter Willa means valiant protector, the name is absolutely perfect for the daughter of Sansa Stark. While the couple name their daughter Willa, their baby girl’s name also has a reference from the HBO series Game of Thrones which featured Sophie playing the role of Sansa Stark for all 8 seasons. With Turner having a huge fan base surrounding her character of Sansa Stark in GOT, in season 8, Willa was the name of a young woman who served as a servant at Winterfell, in the Starks’ ancestral seat.
Meanwhile, the couple were blessed with baby girl Willa on July 22, 2020. Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas began dating in 2016 and tied the knot in Las Vegas, in May 2019. In the presence of family and close friends, Sophie and Joe also had a second wedding in Paris in June 2019. On the other hand, other Hollywood celebrities whose daughter has the name Willa include the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, Keri Russell, David Mamet and Brian De Palma.
