2019 is definitely the year of high quality Indian web content. With a quarter of the year still remaining, we’ve already seen a great number of shows that have struck a chord with the audience. Just two weeks ago, we saw and loved ALTBalaji original, Mission Over Mars. Since then we’ve had Amazon Prime Video’s The Family Man starring Manoj Bajpayee and Netflix original Bard of Blood starring Emraan Hashmi and Sobhita Dhulipala. Today we have another ALTBalaji show, The Verdict: State Vs. Nanavati streaming, slated to be their most ambitious project yet.
Like Mission Over Mars, this show is based on shocking true events. While they fictionalized M.O.M. to a great extent, The Verdict: State Vs. Nanavati promises to be the most honest and authentic version of the controversial case. A great deal of research has gone into making the show as true to real events as possible.
Not only does the show boast of a very impressive cast comprising of names like Eli Avram, Manav Kaul, Sumeet Vyas, Kubbra Sait, Angad Bedi and Makrand Deshpande among others, it is also based on one of the most controversial cases in India. Based in 1950s India, the case is about a naval officer who shot a businessman and later confessed to the police. While the case might seem simple, it was not and led to a trial that was considered a landmark one in the Indian legal system.
This case has earlier been the subject of Bollywood film Rustom starring Akshay Kumar. It has also sparked much debate and been the subject of conversations for decades to come. It will be interesting to see how the makers have treated the subject and whether they have done justice to the interesting source material.
The Verdict: State Vs Nanavati is now streaming on ALTBalaji and Zee5.
