Ajay Devgn, Madhuri Dixit, Akshay Kumar, Raveena Tandon: Superstars Of '90s Who Are Making Their Way On OTT Now
OTT might be a medium for the young audience, but it is slowly emerging as a platform for old and less recognised talents of Bollywood to get the recognition they deserve. The film industry has been accused multiple times of stereotyping actors and for actresses having shorter shelf life, with no substantial roles for women over 40. But with the advent of the digital platform, those barriers are getting shattered.

With actors, like Jaideep Ahlawat and Pankaj Tripathi, getting the success resonating with their skills, there have also been yesteryear superstars like Sushmita Sen, getting a new lease of life for their careers. There have been a lot of the superstars from the ’90s who have expressed their desire to work in good projects time and time again, and they are getting that desired work on OTT. Here’s a look at some such actors and some reigning superstars who are ready for the OTT way:

Ajay Devgn
Ajay’s popularity has only grown over the years and this superstar of the ’90s has held his position strong for almost three decades. After tasting success in films, he is all set to make his OTT debut with Rudra-The Edge Of Darkness, a remake of the British show Luther featuring Idris Elba, on Disney+ Hotstar. Ajay will be playing the role of a cop in the show.

Akshay Kumar

Akshay had announced his OTT debut in March 2019 through an immensely dangerous exhibition, by walking on a ramp while covered in fire. His show, titled The End, is supposed to be an action thriller and air on Amazon Prime Video but it has been getting a bit delayed.

Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri was arguably the most successful leading lady of the ’90s. She had blockbusters like Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Dil To Pagal Hai under her repertoire. After getting married, her Bollywood career slowed down a bit. She appeared in many films at intervals but none created as much impact. However, she found success as a reality dance show judge on TV, and now is all set to make her OTT debut with Finding Anamika on Netflix under Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment. Reportedly, the series is a suspense drama about a global superstar who suddenly goes missing.

Juhi Chawla

Juhi was like the comedy queen of the ’90s and one of the most popular leading ladies of the time. After her marriage with Jai Mehta, her career kind of took a back seat. She made her acting comeback with Gulaab Gang with Madhuri Dixit Nene and also went on to star opposite Anil Kapoor in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga. Now, she is all set to make her OTT debut with a series called Hush Hush on Amazon Prime Video, that will be headed by Tanuja Chandra and will star multiple actresses, including another ’90s star Ayesha Jhulka. Hush Hush is touted to be a thriller drama that will propel forward the movement of women telling their own stories.

Raveena Tandon

Raveena is making her big screen comeback with the pan-India film, KGF 2 and in interviews last year, she had even hinted on a web project in her pipeline. The news finally broke in April this year as she announced her maiden web show, Vijay Gutte’s Legacy, that pits her against Akshaye Khanna.

Akhaye Khanna

Akshaye created waves in 2019 when he appeared in Section 375. The actor proved why he is still one of the finest talents in the country, and now he is making his OTT debut opposite Raveena in Legacy, where they will be clashing as rivals on screen.
