Naveen Kasturia: ‘People Are Now Going Back To Pitchers And Thinkistan After Watching Me In Aspirants’-EXCLUSIVE
Naveen Kasturia has been a part of the OTT space even before it became the monster it is today. He was part of one of the first web series to achieve nationwide success with TVF Pitchers in 2015. Since then, the show has gone on to achieve a cult status, especially amongst the youth, and Naveen went on to do some diverse work. Last month, Naveen reunited with TVF in Aspirants and just like Pitchers, this show also surprisingly became a mammoth success.

The show’s trailer and the first episode were released within a few days of each other without much hype and Naveen informs that even the cast had no idea about this strategy. “Suddenly one day, we were told that the show’s poster is out and we should share it. The next day, the trailer was released and just the day after that, the first episode was out. Even the cast wasn’t aware of this schedule of events,” he informs.

However, Naveen insists that the makers had a strategy behind it and it worked. “The makers said that if they had given a build up to the series, it would have increased expectations. But when people got something so suddenly, it kind of worked for us. Obviously, the show was good, but since people weren’t anticipating anything, they were happy to receive our show and it worked in our favour,” he shares.

Naveen has had a long-standing collaboration with TVF and the actor insists it is special for him. “My career highlights have been with TVF. The Rowdies spoof I did with them had a big hand in me becoming an actor. After that also, I was an assistant director for a long time, but Rowdies followed by Pitchers, gave me recognition and my acting career started. Now, after Aspirants, even though we are at home and can’t see the result in reality, I can feel the vibe changing towards my work,” he states.

Naveen points out that the success of Aspirants has also directed the audience to his previous works. “When Pitchers came, the audience for OTT wasn’t that large. I think if it had released today, it would have been a much bigger hit. After Aspirants, I have been getting messages about Pitchers too. People are now going back to Pitchers and Thinkistan after watching me in Aspirants,” he shares.

It has been six years to Pitchers and when asked why it took them so long to collaborate again, Naveen shares, “I had been eating their brains out for the past six years. I wanted to do more projects with them and whenever I used to see any of their work, I would wonder why didn’t they consider me. But I think it was written in the stars. Arunabh must have thought that with me, they’ll do something good. I think they believe that Naveen represents a common man with dreams, and it has worked for me,” he concludes with a smile.
