Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen is one of the few actresses in the entertainment industry who has aged like fine wine. Known for taking up headstrong roles, in the past few years, she is all set to essay the role of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant in the upcoming biopic Taali. All set to release on Jio Cinema, the actress recently revealed that teaser of the movie and it is safe to say that she has left the audiences stunned with the glimpse.
In the 46 second video, Sushmita can be seen taking the world by storm as Sawant. From talking about the ‘names’ the activist has been called in her life, she reveals that it’s her journey from ‘gaali se taali tak’. She effortlessly dons on the role of the social activist which leaves one with goosebumps. It is safe to say that the netizens, who once criticised her for not giving a transgender actor a chance to essay the role, are now showering her with admiration. Talking about receiving criticism on the 47-year-old actress portraying her on-screen, Gauri Sawant had told Hindustan Times, “I want to make it clear that there are many transgender actors who will be seen in the project, who were picked after a thorough audition process. I am also attached to the project, not as an actor, but in some way. So, it is not just that Sushmita is the only one acting in the project. One should think about how challenging the role will be for a woman with such stature. Because the role comes with a lot of taboo with which we live with. She has shown courage to take it up. And she was my first choice.”
