National Sports Day 2020: History, Importance - All You Need To Know
National Sports day across the globe to honour their players. India celebrates August 29 as national sports day to give tribute to legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. He was born on this day in 1950. The government also spreads awareness about the sports amon the people. 

History: Major Dhyan Chand is known for his excellence playing skill in hockey. Called as the wizard, he has led India to win many matches and claimed three gold medals. And to honour his this contribution, the government observe this day as National Sports day.


Significance:  The national day is celebrated with an aim to encourage youths to participate in games and understand the sports. This day also glorifies the sport culture of India.


On this day, President awards players with khel ratan award. This year it will be held virtual owing to the pandemic.
