‘Mhorkya’ meaning ‘The Leader’ is Amar Bharat Deokar’s directorial debut in the feature films. The film talks about a journey of a fourteen-year-old sheep header called ‘Ashya’. This innocent village boy wants to become a leader of the school parade. His journey is a metaphorical representation of the system in our society.
The director Amar Bharat Deokar belongs to the theatre background and his short film ‘Identity’ too bagged many national-international awards in short film festivals. MHORKYA is his debut feature film as a writer, director, actor, and co-producer. The director recently released the film’s teaser on his Instagram channel. In the teaser of the film, you can see a young boy and the director himself.
After being screened at a number of film festivals across the globe ‘Mohrkya’ will be screened across Maharashtra commercially, on 24th January 2020. Just in time for Republic Day, this film will celebrate a sentiment of patriotism, courage, and determination in youth. The film won the National Award in 65th National Film Awards 2018 for ‘Best Children’s Film’.
There were a number of controversies surrounding the National Award for ‘Mhorkya’. Being a director who has struggled his way to the top, Amar was eager to accept the National Award from the President. When the news hit that most of the 2018 awards will not be given out by the President, Amar was reluctant to accept the National Award.
