VIDEO: Badshah: Having an actress' name in the song has always been lucky for me
The talented rapper opens up about his struggles, his love for music and more in this exclusive chat on 9XM Soundtrack
Not many achieve what this talented rapper from Punjab has achieved in a such a short span of time. Badshah surely has had his shares of struggles.
Badshah feels that he has had tough times at the start of his career but refuses to term it as a struggle as he has always loved what he was doing. "I have enjoyed each day of my life to the fullest. Lot of upcoming artists dream of getting the life I live," elaborates the rapper.
Badshah believes that Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai from Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan starrer Khoobsurat has been the biggest turning point of his career.
However, he admits that he was bad with 'sur'. He was always interested in rapping as he mastered the art of storytelling.
He also admits that he was not very academically sound, though his parents wanted him to become an IAS officer.
Talking about his recent success with the song Kala Chashma, Badhsah said that he met the makers of the song in 2011 and expressed his desire to remake the song adding his own element of rap. The wish finally got fulfilled in 2016 with Kala Chashma from Baar Baar Dekho.
His music is widely influenced by Nadeem Shravan as he has grown up hearing their music.
Badshah made another interesting revelation. The rapper feels that having an actress' name in the song has proven lucky for him.
"Chul had Raveena's name, Lets Nacho had Kareena's name and Kala Chashma had Katrina's name. "Having an actress' name in the song has always been lucky for me," said the rapper.
Ask him who is his mentor from the music industry, Badshah is quick to reply, "Whenever I have a problem, I always go to Vishal (Dadlani) sir as I am not trained in music,"
The rapper had least expectations with Wakhra Swag as he was unsure of how people would react to the song. But we're sure he has no complaints anymore!
