In a candid conversation with SpotboyE.com, Indeep Bakshi talks about his Bollywood journey, trolls and spat with Badshah among other things
It’s World Music Day today and on the occasion, we got talking to Indeep Bakshi who rose to fame with the hit track Saturday Saturday (Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania).
Excerpts from the conversation that followed:
You have become popular in a short span of time. Tell us about your journey so far.
I have always been fond of writing and would often alter songs’ lyrics. I wrote Saturday Saturday when I was in 12th standard and played the track for my friends who gave it a thumbs up.
Years later, I approached Yo Yo Honey Singh with the number and he instantly liked it. So much so that he decided to write the rap portion of the song. However, Yo Yo was at his peak at that point of time and I thought adding my name next to his would be a foolish idea, hence, the collaboration didn’t work out. Post that, I went to Badshah who wrote the rap for me. This is how Saturday Saturday was made.

You have parted ways with Badshah. What triggered the decision?
We have not parted ways. We might collaborate if the track is superlative and suits our needs.
It all began with Kala Chashma (Baar Baar Dekho). The line, sadkon pe chale jab, in the track belonged to one of my albums called Billionaire (2013). When I realised that the lyrics have been used in the song and my name was missing from the credits, my talent manager called Dharma up and things were sorted. The same scenario repeated with Burberry Checks which hurt me. Hence, for now, we will work independently.
What are your upcoming projects?
I have given a track for a movie titled Tina & Lolo which features Sunny Leone. I also have a reality show called A Date To Remember coming up. Then, a single is releasing soon.

How do you handle trolls on social media?
I enjoy people talking about me whether it’s good or bad. People are making me famous by talking about me.
What are the challenges you face while writing lyrics for Bollywood?
When I started writing, I never had to adhere to a deadline or script. For me, writing depends on my mood. In Bollywood, people call you up at the eleventh hour and say that they need a track the very next day. It’s quite challenging to make a song based on the situation.

What is your equation with Yo Yo Honey Singh?
We haven’t spoken to each other since a very long time.
Do you think Bollywood is open to experimentation?
People are now open to experimentation. But we do have people who put out crappy work under the pretext of trying something unique. Having said that, I do think that Bollywood is supporting different genres of music.
