Lata Mangeshkar left for her heavenly abode on Sunday. She passed away due to multiple organ failure. The veteran singer's doctor Dr Patit Samdani had released a statement that read, "It is with profound grief that we announce the sad demise of Lata Mangeshkar at 8:12 AM. She has died because of multi-organ failure after more than 28 days of hospitalisation post COVID-19."

In her career spanning over eight decades, Lata Mangeshkar ruled the music industry with her mesmerising voice. During her career, she was honoured with several awards for her contribution to the Indian music industry. However, not many know that the legendary singer once refused to accept the Filmfare Award.

In 1958, she was nominated for best playback female singer for her song 'Aaja Re Pardesi' from the film Madhumati. However, she refused to accept the award and objected to it being designed in the shape of a woman who had no clothes on it. Talking about awards, she was the recipient of three National Film Awards, Bharat Ratna, Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Maharashtra Bhushan Award, NTR National Award and ANR National Award among others.

On Sunday, the legendary singer was cremated with full state honours at Mumbai's Shivaji Park. Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor among others attended her funeral. Many celebrities including Akshay Kumar, Dia Mirza, and Anil Kapoor paid tribute to her on social media.
