I Love Rock N Roll Songwriter Alan Merrill Passes Away At 69 Due To Coronavirus
It's a sad Monday morning. The writer of one of the most famous rock songs I Love Rock N Roll, Alan Merrill, is no more. He was the one who first wrote and performed on this iconic song before Joan Jett and The Blackhearts picked up the tune. Alan Merrill was also a guitarist and frontman of the rock band The Arrows. The news of his demise was confirmed by his daughter Laura via a Facebook post. In a lengthy post, Laura mentioned that Alan passed away due to Coronavirus and that she could only get two minutes with him before he was laid to rest.

Laura's post on Facebook read, "The Coronavirus took my father this morning. I was given 2 minutes to say my goodbyes before I was rushed out. He seemed peaceful and as I left there was still a glimmer of hope that he wouldn’t be a ticker on the right hand side of the CNN/Fox News screen.” Next she wrote about attending his concert recently and said, "By the time I got in the doors to my apartment I received the news that he was gone. How could this be? I was just at his show a couple of weeks ago. I had just photographed his portrait for his new album. Texted with him earlier.”

As soon as the news of Alan's demise made it to the internet, condolences started pouring in. Joan Jett too posted Alan's picture and wrote, "I still remember watching The Arrows on TV in London and being blown away by the song that screamed hit to me." He further wrote, "With deep gratitude and sadness, wishing him a safe journey to the other side."

May his soul rest in peace.
