Malayalam Actor Vinayakan Receives Severe Backlash For Saying, 'If Asking For Sex Is MeToo, I'll Continue To Do’; Trolls Call Him 'Clueless Guy’
Several netizens have criticized Vinayakan over his remarks on the MeToo movement
Malayalam actor Vinayakan, who is widely known for his brilliant performance in films like ‘Kammattipaadam’ and ‘Ee, Ma. Yau’, is riding high on the success of his latest Malayalam release 'Oruthee'. During the promotions of the film, the actor stirred up a controversy and miffed several netizens over his remarks on the MeToo movement. Vinayakan shocked everyone when he said, “if asking a woman for sex is Me Too, then he will continue to do so.” A certain section of social media users has severely criticized the actor calling him ‘clueless’.
Addressing the media at a press conference, Vinayakan, on being asked about his views on Me Too, said, “I don’t know what about that. I want to know. Do I need to know if I want to have sex with a woman? I’ve had sex with 10 women in my life. I asked them all if she would like to have a relationship with me? Soon after this, the actor started receiving backlash on social media over his comments. #Vinayakan started trending on Twitter with users expressing their anger and dismay with the actor. One said, “you can't just ask random people to sleep with you It might be a traumatic experience for the people at the other end.” Another reacted, “You cannot ask someone when you are at a position of power/ there's something the other one needs. Back in 2019, Vinayakan had made headlines after he was arrested on the complaint of poet and Dalit activist Mruduladevi, who accused the actor of using sexually explicit language with her over the phone. Vinayakan often grabs headlines with his controversial remarks.
