At the start of his acting career, Samuthirakani played the role of a reporter in his debut Tamil TV serial Sila Nijangal Sila Nyayangal, 1998. Then he made his film debut in 2001 as an actor in Balachander’s Tamil drama film Paarthale Paravasam.

Since then he has appeared in various TV serials and films. And as his journey into the film industry continued, Samuthirakani tried his hand in direction with his directorial debut film Unnai Charanadaindhen. The film also won him Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Story Writer, as he was also the writer of the film. Being a Tamil action drama, the story of Nadodigal focused on friendship and love. The film was a blockbuster in 2009 and was nominated for various awards.

Pretty soon the actor will be appearing as a Police Officer in Thiagarajan directorial Tamil thriller, Writer. The film is a remake of his Bollywood film Andhadhun.
